In the process of obtaining all documents for NVC. I'm just curious about my spouse retrieving the certificate in Japan from the police. I've read different things on the forums, but what document does she exactly need to present to the Japanese police? Also, if NVC needs a photocopy of it, how would I get a copy if it's sealed? If they send it directly to NVC and its in Japanese, how would it be translated? It'd be greatly appreciated if I can get some answers. I've just read a lot of things on the forums and just want a solid answer so there's no errors for processing through the NVC.

Have you read this? (And your wife can read it in Japanese)

Thank you. For some reason when I was trying to view it through mobile format, it wasn't properly loading. I do appreciate your response.

"To request a police certificate, Japanese applicants will need:

Passport(valid original; photo copy is not acceptable)

Either of the following documents

1. An official copy of your Resident Record/ "Juminhyo"(issued within the last six months)

2. A document issued by the government or other official offices that shows your name and address(e.g. Alien Registration Certificate, Resident Register Card /"Jumin Kihondaicho Card" and etc.)

U.S. Embassy dated "Immigrant Visa Instructions" or request for a police certificate. If you have an I-130 petition with NVC in the U.S. and received DS-3032(Choice of Address and Agent), NVC will send an applicant or agent the instruction package. Please follow the instruction by NVC."

My wife tried the police station yesterday and they said she needs proof she needs a police certificate too. It sounds like it will be in some packet that she will get with special instructions to do so.
