Whatever works best for you. But focus on quality rather than quantity. Pages and pages of smiley faces, kisses and "I love you" messages are meaningless. Focus on a few messages over the period of time that show ongoing communication of a genuine couple. We sent emails and messages where we discussed money, hospital appointments, travel plans, what gift to buy someone for their birthday, work, what colour curtains to buy for the living room, and so on.

I got a download of my FB messenger chat history and just saved the most relevant parts into Word (including the dates and times) to print out. I, like JFH, chose just the most relevant parts of the incredibly long chat history and only included the messages that showed an ongoing relationship such as when we were planning trips and plans for things we would do after I got to the US. I also included things like when I told him my cats' pet passports showed up so they were ready to travel - all the sorts of things that showed ongoing and future planning but I left out most of the regular everyday stuff like when we'd ask how each other's day was going. When I say most, I did include a few messages like that from random different dates as that's the sort of thing that shows genuine care for someone else about the little details of their lives as well as the fairly business-like planning that is needed for any sort of move from one country to another.
