k3 versus IR-1

Hi, I am new to this whole process. I understand that the K-3 can be faster, but the IR-1 is less expensive and your spouse has a green card upon entry.

I am trying to decide which route to go? For those in the process of getting the IR-1, is it a very long process? Difficult? Do you recommend seeking help with the paperwork?

K3 is virtually obsolete very rarely being issued. IR1 is the superior visa.

Even if the K3 wasn't obsolete, it's not an either/or - the K3 is applied for after the I-130 for IR-1 is already underway, anyway.

To answer your other questions.

The process is about a year.

You can do the paperwork by yourself without needing to pay a lawyer. Unless you have complications in your case you really don't need a lawyer for this. All the information you need is in the Guides section of this site.
