Hi Everyone,

I'm a new member here at visa journey, I need some help with my situation.

I'm a US citizen and my wife is a Mexican citizen. Currently we both reside in Mexico in our apartment we rent. I'm staying here on a tourist visa because i travel back and forth to the US every couple of months anyway for medication. I'm a 90% disabled veteran. I believe my monthly check should be more then enough for the affidavit of support. I maintain a residence in the US that my wife and I will reside in when she gets her visa.

We were married on 10/18/2014 in Cuernavaca, Mexico. My wife traveled to the US after we were married on a tourist visa with no problems. We returned before the six month limit was expired. She has not returned to the US since then.

I'm trying to figure out this whole CR-1 process and maybe even hire a lawyer depending on the situation and the ease of mind it provides. The money isn't really an issue as of right now. Just getting my wife into the states at some point. Time really isn't a factor either. When ever it finishes it finishes you know. I just want it to be mostly chaos free.

Any input you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Silverado,

You can do the paperwork yourself, just take it one step at a time.

So you may be able to file directly with one of the U.S. consulates in Mexico. If you qualify, it will be a much faster process than going through the USCIS and then the State Department National Visa Center. For example, just to start the process with the USCIS, you would file an I-130 petition that can take several months depending on the service center it is assigned to. Mine took 6 months.

So in my opinion, you would want to first see if you can to a DCF ( you will see others on this forum use that acronym), means Direct Consular Filing. Much much faster from what i've read.

Here is a link someone posted a few years ago, he ended up filing directly at the U.S. consulate in Juarez.

Now the question is, can you do a DCF on a tourist visa, or do you have to be a resident of Mexico. Hopefully others that know more about Mexico can give advice,

Good luck
