As long as she can communicate with English (which I know for sure she is) and all documents are in good shape, I don't see any problem with that. My friend's son traveled alone and he was only 8 years old. And yes, he is from Philippines too.

I don't think the age would be an issue. I would recommend that you ask the airlines for verification.

She does need to be a VERY confident young lady as she will traveling on several different planes or airlines with gate and concourse changes along the way. Has she flown before?

She can travel alone but she will need a clearance from DSWD

A travel clearance is a document issued by the DSWD to a Filipino child (below 18 years of age) traveling abroad alone or with someone other than his/her parents.

WHO NEEDS A TRAVEL CLEARANCE?

  • A minor traveling alone to a foreign country ;

In your case you may want to contact the Philippine consulate for your area here in the States

I will share you our experience right now.

My sister, 16 y.o., will be travelling alone to US for the first time. She just got her immigrant visa and will be flying next month April 2016. She did her CFO (peer counseling) but needs the travel clearance from DSWD since she is travelling alone eventhough her visa is immigrant. So we inquired at DSWD on how to get one, one of the requirement is a written consent from both parents. Since my mom is here in the US, she needs to secure a notarized affidavit of consent, it should be notarized and consularized by Philippine General Consulate under the jurisdiction where we live. Everything is just a hassle. Right now we are on the process of securing the affidavit. Since we live far from the Phil Consulate, we need to do it by mail. But before that, we need to have all the documents notarized locally, and authenticated by Department of State. I am hoping to acquire all necessary documents before my sister's flight date.

Plus you can request for assistance on your airline for unaccompanied minor. It comes with a fee and depends with the airline policy. Airline staff will assist your child from Check-in until the immigration at Point of Entry.
