Non USC Frequent Travel

My husband (GC holder) travels frequently abroad for work. He is gone normally about 50% of the time, but sometimes even more. This year (2016) he has been out of the country more time than he has been in the country due to some abnormally long trips. He is not living outside of the USA, his permanent residence, address, home, etc is all here. Do we need to go through and count all the days he's been out of the country for work trips? We will be able to file for naturalization in about a year but I want to start keeping track now if we need to (much easier to sort through only two years of data instead of three years!!!) Will this frequent travel (if more than 6 months/year) affect the time frame of when we can file?

(We're doing ROC in another month and I want to be prepared to file for naturalization in one year in case the ROC takes too long.)

Yes. The N-400 asks for all trips outside the US for the past 3 years. You need to make sure that he meets the continuous residence requirement (which he does, if he's not living overseas) and the physical presence requirement (this one you may have trouble, but he has to have been in the US for 18 months out of the past 3 years).
