Are public records part of N-400 background checks? I am concerned that while I have never ever been ticketed or convicted or arrested, someone with a similar name and similar age (my name is fairly common) who show up in public records may cause confusion with a name check.

It might cause a small delay just so they can dig a little deeper and clear your name, but they have your fingerprints and other biographic information to sort through it all, if it is not you, they will know. If it is you, they will know that also.

Edited to say: I have an extremely common last name as well, I did have a long wait in between my biometrics and interview, but I was approved. Trust the FBI, they know what they are doing :)

If someone else has similar name/age/etc, then you might experience a delay after your biometrics appointment because it will require a manual review and this takes time. USCIS will not place you in line for interview until the manual review clears the name. Good luck.
