Hello,

our bid to bring our stepson has hit a bump in the road. Thailand requires a letter from the birth father notarized at the government office or a document from the government showing the mother has sole custody. My wife has sole custody but to be on the safe side we had family and the birth father travel to the government office to do the letter. the office refused since the father had no custody rights. I emailed the embassy and questioned if the divorce decree awarding sole custody would suffice. they responded and said that would be fine. His CR-2 interview was on the 4th and he was issued a 221G requiring the letter. GRRRR. His mother attended with him and showed them the email and the original divorce decree but they didn't care. We have now had to travel and pay the father to take a day off work and travel to the office where we had to bribe the official to create the letter. I am venting because this was a subjective call by the embassy I believe. They kept his passport and we submitted the letter so his visa should be forthcoming.
