Steps after DS-160

Hello VJ members,

I just submitted the online DS-160 for B-2 tourist visa for my mother in law in India. I choose Chennai, India consulate. What's the next step? Where would I go to make the $160 payment? Does the payment have to be made online in U.S dollars or can my mother in law make the payment when she's at the consulate with Indian rupees equivalent to $160?

I know I need to schedule a visa interview appointment also. I just submitted the online form, how long should I wait to schedule the interview for her?

Finally, what other documents do I need? I know she needs to bring DS-160 confirmation page, her current and past passports with her. What else? Should I type up an invitation letter to stay with us also?

Thanks as always,

Tony

Were there no instructions online?

I don't know about India but here in the UK I made the payment online when I submitted the DS160, and also selected an interview date at the same time.

She needs to being proof of her ties to her home country, as that is what the CO will want to determine at the interview; for examples just do a search there are a number of topics with the information.

ok, thanks

For some reason, I'm not able to create an account to pay online and select interview date. I just submitted the DS-160 online this Saturday, so there might be a delay.

What circumstance is preventing you from creating an account?

This is the URL where I'm going to create an account

https://cgifederal.secure.force.com/?language=English&country=India

Below is the error it's giving me. I only applied for the DS-160 this Saturday, the 16th, so I'm not sure if there's a delay. I'm going to wait a couple of days and try again. I guess my DS-160 is not in the system yet.

I just created a bogus account on that page without any problems.

Are you sure you are clicking the correct link to create a new account?

I'm using the correct link, the one you just used to create the bogus account. I'm getting the same errors.

Update, I was able to create a bogus account also, but when I type in the name I used in DS-160, it won't accept. Interesting, I'm thinking there's a delay?

Not to sound like Capt. Obvious, but you ensured that?

No worries, I know you're trying to help.

Yes, I made sure I'm entering the correct name. I'm going to try a different email address.
