Hello.

My fiance Stone and I are in the process of filing a petition (i-129F) for for my K1 visa.

I am an Indian citizen, and my fiance is an American citizen (military).

In the instructions, one of the documents requested is proof of any name change:

"If either you or the person for whom you are filing is using a name other than shown on the relevant documents, you must submit copies of the legal documents that made the name change, such as a marriage certificate, adoption decree, or court order."

I was previously married, so at the time, changed my surname. This is now my legal name and all my documents use this name, with the exception of my birth certificate, which has my maiden name.

However, the legal document that made the name change, is my marriage certificate, which I no longer have in possession, since I had to surrender it to the Family Court at the time of my divorce.

Will a Divorce Decree, and copies of all passport pages (old and new names), along with a letter stating the above reason, suffice as proof?
