Picture on Certificate - which one do they use?

Do they use the photo we submitted with our package or the photo from biometrics on our certificate? I read that the one taken at biometrics appointment is the one they use on the certificate. Just wondering if anyone knows.

USCIS - 40 DAYS
2012-10-30: FedEx delivered I-130 to Chicago Lockbox Mail Room
2012-11-01: NOA1 by email - MSC
2012-11-02: $420 (x3) debited from our account
2012-11-05: NOA1 hard copies received, Priority Date 2012-10-30
2012-12-11: NOA2

NVC - 26 DAYS
2013-01-02: Rec'd case#, IIN, BIN & OPTIN emails for EP sent
2013-01-03: Submitted DS-261 (x3)
2013-01-07: AOS bills invoiced and paid & OPTIN for EP accepted for each of us
2013-01-08: AOS bills appear as paid & AOS packages sent by email
2013-01-08: IV bill invoiced & paid (kids' only)

I was naturalized in December and I can confirm that they use the photo taken at the biometrics appointment. The one you send in with the application serves as a backup in the event their primary photo is destroyed.

They almost always use the photo taken at biometrics.

In some rare cases they use the one you sent in and just glue it to the certificate (like they used to a few years ago with all certificates).

I'm not sure why, but every case I've read about where they used the mailed-in photo was a case where the applicant requested a name change.

At first I thought it was because they made you sign your new name on the photo at the interview, but there are other people who asked for a name change and still got the biometrics photo on their certificate. It may be that some field offices were still transitioning from one system to another...

So I would say that they will almost certainly use the biometrics photo unless you requested a name change in which case it could go either way... so wear something nice to your bio appointment!

LOL that's exactly why I'm asking. The photo I sent was AWFUL!!

I'm very pleased to read this because my photo I sent in barely looks like me and is hideous! lol

If you are worried about which photos may be used (although in most cases they use the bio photos), just take 2 new photos with you to the interview.
