Why was my passport application sent to the National Passport Center rather than the Chicago Passport Agency?

Something I should have asked the acceptance agent at my local passport office, I reckon.

I live in the Chicago suburbs. Literally 25 minutes from Chicago. Last year my passport application was sent directly there, although it wasn't expedited (is that the reason?)

I'm replacing a stolen passport. I applied on 12/3, my check was cashed overnight.

The transaction is called "PASSPORT NATIONL PAYMENT ARC" while the previous one was "PASSPORT CHICAGO PAYMENT ARC."

Wouldn't it more sense to process it at the nearest passport agency?

I'm assuming it was sent to the NH agency, is that the "national" one?

I mean, it really shouldn't matter. But it would be a whole lot more convenient to have it in Chicago if any problems arise with my application.

Who knows why they do what they do? It's the government.

However, the National center has capable folks working there, so you should be fine.

I got my passport last night. Filed on 12/3, tracking/check cashed on 12/8, overnighted on 12/10. I'm REALLY impressed by them. This was just regular expedited, no travel plans.
