It will be a while until I can bring my partner here, but I have a situation and wanted to know what you all thought of it and inadmissibility.

My partner had a series of emotional breakdowns when he was 17/18. He was involuntarily hospitalized a few times. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia and put on disability ever since.

He's now almost 30. He did try to kill himself during that time. But I know for a fact he doesn't fit the criteria for schizophrenia and I think they just diagnosed him with whatever would get him disability. His "psychosis" was always due to lack of sleep for days at a time and stress (most likely from becoming an adult and his home life at the time). He almost surely has Asperger Syndrome, and his father obviously does. It runs in his family (and they are undiagnosed). He never really cared about the diagnosis because he's on disability and didn't really see a point I guess.

He can do everything but hold employment, and this is due to his AS. He still has a bit of trouble coping with change and such, and had problems with an eating disorder over a year ago but is at a healthy weight again.

I wanted to know everyone's opinion on this and possible inadmissibility. I'm thinking of finally getting him a proper assessment for Asperger Syndrome and getting him therapy, so by the time we apply, he'll have a solid history of being well and not being a harm with a professional to back it up.

He hasn't been hospitalized in about 11/12 years and hasn't self-harmed or harmed anyone else. His family all agreed he has AS too, and he's had symptoms since he was very little. Obviously when I eventually bring him here, I'll be supporting both of us and making well above the FPL.

Any non communicable disease is not a criteria for inadmissibility, as long as you can show them that they will not be a burden to the health system of the country. That you said you make well above FPL so shouldn't be a problem. And definitely an issue with any psychiatric condition is if the person will be of danger to anyone else and this you can prove with a letter from certified psychiatrist. Rest is you have the right to bring your family to live with you as long as they don't posses any threat to anybody else.

So since he's gone so long without being a danger to himself, this will be good? I know they consider everything, I'm just not sure if the past history would matter if he's currently stable and has been stable for mostly a long time.

Do you think getting him diagnosed correctly would be good? I mean, Asperger Syndrome is generally not associated with violence whereas schizophrenia could be.

i'd be more concern about his remission, ongoing treatment, person who'd look after him when he is in states and who'd be giving his medicines so that he doesn't fall into the condition again. rest is he's a family and nothing else should be a problem. and about danger, if anything will be an issue is if he'd be to others. please refer to this website, this should have all that you need to know

Well, he doesn't need looking after. Aside from employment, he's completely independent. He can cook, clean, take buses, budget, etc.

I would be supporting both of us. He would like to be in therapy, but he's not on medication. In fact, he doesn't really need it. He hasn't harmed anyone or been a harm to himself since he was 17/18.

I did read the link you provided. I was just wondering if anyone had similar stories, advice in advance, etc.
