I have been trying to research how to deal with the whole licensing ordeal since I began the K-1 process and I still haven't figured out exactly what the best plan of action is when it comes to switching my driver's license/insurance/titles etc., so I'm here looking for advice.

The details:

I moved from Ontario, Canada to South Jersey on September 24th 2015 on a K-1. I successfully imported my car, which is still being financed. Got married on October 24th. I have my SSN which is still in my maiden name. I have certified copies of my marriage certificate. I have a full Canadian license. The only US bank account I have right now is the RBC one that you can get. AOS is just about ready to be mailed (waiting on MIL to get me her work info :clock: ).

I have not changed my license or transferred my title. I'm still covered under my Canadian insurance company, however they said they only cover non-residents in the US up to 6 months and new residents for only 30 days - I haven't lied to them but I haven't been specific either and don't really want to push it with them.

Having a financed car is not an issue - RBC has told me, along with the MVC, that when the time comes to transfer titles that RBC will mail the title to Trenton NJ to do the transfer, who will then mail it back to RBC.

SO with that being said.... I know that getting a DL in NJ I needed either 60 days left on my visa or wait for EAD. Is anyone able to give me a timeline of events in terms of licensing and transferring titles etc.? Since I don't have 60 days left, I have to wait to get my EAD to get a license, so do I have to wait until then to get insurance/title transfers (because I need a state license to get insurance right)? Does anyone recommend doing anything now before I start changing my name on things, like my SSN, for example? Any advice would be great.

This whole vehicle thing puts a ding on my super organization skills for the K-1 process
