So we decided to hire a lawyer for my parents case. Me and my wife will sponsor my parents, my question is.. At what number in our income tax is immigration looking at to determine if we made enough money? When we did our income tax for 2014 they said we made around $40,000. But some one told me immigration looks at taxable income which is only $11,000? We are supposed to make over 30,000 for a house hold of 4 which I thought we did. But not according to taxable income. Thanks for your answers.

For the Affidavit of Support (the I-864), they look at your gross (total) income. Here's the exact wording of the instructions for filling out the I-864

For purposes of this affidavit, the line for Total Income on IRS Forms 1040 and 1040A will be considered when determining income. For persons filing IRS Form 1040 EZ, the line for adjusted gross income will be considered

Eighteen years in the US and I still don't understand Velveeta, TV ads for prescription drugs, only getting 2 weeks paid vacation, or why anyone believes anything they see on Fox "News".
