PASSPORT PROBLEMS - EMERGENCY

The National Passport Agency received my passport renewal application on August 25, 2015. About a month later they requested I send them a "certified original and certified translated original" marriage certificate even though I had send them this from the Ministry of Justice in Cairo. So my husband scrambled and sent them everything they requested which they received 3 weeks ago. I received a letter TODAY stating that what we send them is not sufficient and I have 90 days to send them what they want. After calling 3 agencies, the answer is still the same. They can only request for someone from the passport center to contact me (they will not provide a number). So I must wait for someone to hopefully contact me. They know I'm traveling in 3 weeks. I asked them to just return my old passport with my old name and they said I will need to wait the 90 days. ####### good does that do me right now?!! I've already spent $900 on a non-refundable plane ticket. My heart is breaking. Has anyone been through something similar or have ANY idea as to what I can do? If I can get my passport back that has my old name on it...can I still travel with that?

Did you get your marriage certificate authenticated at the US embassy?

No, we actually ended up having to go through another certified translation agency. I had a lot of help locally yesterday; I work for someone who has fairly close ties to the Senator's office. I received a call from them yesterday and after signing off on a privacy release, the secretary is personally tracking my passport and said I should receive it next week. As they say, it's not necessarily what you know, but who you know. Of course I won't relax until it's in my hands!!!

I hope you get it soon! Not translating but authenticating through te embassy gives the Passport agency what they want. They love creating headaches. Thank heavens you know who you know!
