After a long wait, my father is finally scheduled to take oath at the District court in Islip, NY (100 Federal Plaza). I have a few questions for those of you who has experience.

1. Early arrival - Any benefit to arriving early? Reporting time is 8:30am

2. Taking pictures: Are cameras or cellphones allowed inside the building? If not, what options are available?

3. Passport application: I understand there is a USPS office inside the building. Does it get crowded with everyone applying at the same time? Would you recommend a different location?

Any other tips?

Thank you.

1. No benefit of arriving early. The seating will not make much difference. They may have the elderly sit in the front for less walk.

2. Picture cell phone is not allowed inside the room where oath takes place but things may have changed with modern technology. These days if phone is allowed how can you restrict camera. However, right outside of that room, you will have areas to take pictures, and that's inside the building.

3. Don't worry about the passport. Many post offices does that and you can easily speak to them and get it done. Talk to the post office first as you may need to make an appointment. I did mine on flushing post office, my parents did theirs in Bayside, my wife did in NJ and etc. Dont get carried away with doing it on the same day. I know it's exciting but isn't worth the line you may face. Also don't pay more for the expedite processing. The regular process is very fast with half the price. Unless they are flying in 5 days, don't go for the expedite one.

By the way those are just my opinions.

I just had my oath taking at Islip, NY. You don't have to arrive early but be sure you stand and wait near the courts door so you get in and sit on the first row. Cellphones are not permitted, you have to surrender your phone at the security check in. First row in first row out. Good luck!
