Name Change Questions?

Hey everyone,

Just wondering....I was married in late December and haven't changed my last name yet. I wanted to file the petition ASAP and was curious as to what I should put on the forms. Should I put my married name since it is not legally changed yet? I wouldn't think so but I wanted to ask. And, what if I put my maiden name and current last name on the forms but I will for sure change it before the petition is approved?

I haven't even notified anything in America that I am married. What was your first step in doing this? Probably the name change, right  What should I do in regards to all of this for the petition?

Thank you!!!

Erin :luv:

I would not put your married name on the forms unless you have legally changed it. (I have not changed to my married name yet either because of all this. Once my husband's visa is through then I will change it.) Besides, you never know. They might take your SS# look at the form, see conflicting names and send out an RFE. Why risk wasting the extra time?

Nothing I say is legal advice. I recommend you consult a qualified immigration attorney for any questions you may have.
