To give the quick run down, my wife is sponsoring her child who is turning 5 years old this year. The petition has made it through the USCIS and is now at the NVC. My wife has paid the NVC for the Affidavit of Support $120 and we have printed out the Affidavit of Support ( completely filled in ) and we've gathered all necessary documents ( financial documents ) required for the affidavit of support. My question is this, do I need to send the NVC my wifes affidavit of support, all financial documents etc. then wait until it shows they've received it on the nvc website? Right now next to where it says I've paid for the affidavit of support, it shows N/A ( under Affidavit of Support Fee it shows PAID ) but beside this it shows ( Affidavit of Support Documents & Financial Evidence - N/A ) this means they are waiting on the documents correct? The reason I'm asking this question is because when the NVC sent my wife an email saying that they ready to continue with her sons petition after waiting for almost 6 months, she received a checklist that states she needs to put all documents in order. I just need to know if we are sending just the affidavit of support & financial documents then waiting until it shows on the website that they received it or am I sending the entire packet from the check list all at once which would include the following:

1. Document Cover Sheet

2. Financial Documents:

  • Affidavit of Support
  • IRS Tax Transcript
  • Federal Income Tax Return
  • Form W2
  • Evidence of income
  • Proof of relationship
  • Proof of U.S. status
  • Social Security Earnings Statement
  • Proof of assets

3. Supporting Documents

  • Adoption documentation
  • Birth Certificate
  • Court and prison record(s)
  • Marriage certificate
  • Marriage termination documents
  • Military records
  • Petitioner documents
  • Photocopy of valid passport
  • Photographs
  • Police Certificate(s)
  • Translations
  • Photocopies

4. Other documents

My concern is this, I don't want to send them #3 supporting documents if right now they only want the affidavit of support + financial documents as we only paid the $120 fee, we never paid the $320 fee for the DS-260 because it doesn't give us that option yet. So do we send ALL THESE documents together with that checklist or do we just send the Affidavit of Support + Financial documents, wait until the NVC receives them then pay the $320 fee, fill out the DS-260 form and then submit all supporting documents.

Thanks to anyone who can help and sorry for the long post.

The N/A under "Financial Documents" and "Supporting Documents" will always say N/A even after they're received your documents and reviewed them.

When did you pay the AOS fee? Your IV fee should be invoiced a few weeks after submitting the DS-261 and paying the AOS fee.

You can submit all documents to NVC after paying the AOS fee, including financial and supporting documents. It's best to submit all of these together instead of separately because sending them separately will delay your case.

If you haven't gotten the IV fee yet, I suggest calling NVC tomorrow and having them review the DS-261 over the phone. That way, they'll invoice it on the spot and you'll receive the fee in a few days via e-mail.

Thanks so much, yeah we paid the AOS fee about 3 weeks ago, and we have a link that says Pay Now for the IV fee but when we click on it, nothing allows for us to pay on the next page. I will give them a call and see what is going on. So in the supporting documents, this is all my step son's documents correct? Although it does say petitioner documents, what petitioner documents exactly are they looking for? It doesn't specify exactly it just says petitioner documents. Does anyone know exactly what petitioner documents they need?

Thanks again for your answer teeak!

Hmm, did you get the invoice ID e-mail for the IV fee? Once you receive this, I believe that is when you can pay the fee. It may take a few days to actually pay it though.

Petitioner documents are only required for the F4 and IR5 category. They won't be necessary in your case.

Yes, supporting documents is for your step-son. Here's a link that gives the process and documents you'll need to provide.

We never got an invoice ID email for the IV fee. We got nothing, the only email we got was the check list email giving us the details to login and pay the AOS fee which we did. Shortly after we did that, we gathered all documents and just bit sitting on them because we are unsure of what to do next as we didn't want to just send the AOS + Financial documents and not send the others because that's what we thought, we thought if we send the AOS + Financial documents, it would then show they received it on the website, and then they would invoice us for the IV payment and only then we would send the supporting documents etc. But what your saying is that I need to send all documents together, should I wait until I've paid the IV fee before I send the documents to the NVC? Do I need to send the DS-260 form to the NVC with all other documents or is the DS-260 done online only?

Yes, send them together. You don't need to wait to pay the IV fee. You can send it as soon as the AOS fee is paid. I definitely suggest calling NVC tomorrow and having the IV fee invoiced.

It's up to you if you'd like to submit the documents right now or after the IV fee is paid and DS-260 is completed. It's best that the DS-260 is completed around the same time as the submission of the documents so maybe wait until the IV fee is paid and DS-260 opens up.

The DS-260 should be completed online.

Hello to all, just have a question. My step son is turning 5 years old this year and on the check list under supporting documents it's asking for Marriage certificate, is this me and my wifes marriage certificate or is this the marriage certificate of the person coming to the united states? Obviously my step son is not married so is this a document that they wont need correct? Or is this document under Supporting Documents of the check list me and my wifes marriage certificate?

Thanks!

The marriage certificate they are asking for is the intending immigrant. So, you won't need to provide one.
