So we have until the 1 year deadline of October 30th to obtain a k2 follow to join visa for my wife's child.

The child's passport should be at hand around October 13.

Do you think there might be enough time to get the k2 visa by Oct 30th?

or should I just file the I-824 form requesting USCIS to forward the approved AOS to the consulate for follow-to-join?

If filing the 824 is the route I should take, anyone know what the current processing time is for that for Manila? It says 3 months, but could be sooner just like the 129F. Keep in mind this is for Follow-to-Join for the beneficiary's dependent.

Just found out my NOA2 approved Oct 25, 2013 is still good. Was automatically extended by the embassy until one year of the last date of notification which is Dec 3, 2013. It's a race now.

Could I ask, just for my own enlightenment, why or what stipulates the deadline or 1 yr? I may find myself in a similar situation one day, as my wifes daughter does not want to come at the same time with her mother, she is 13 years old at present.

there is a 1 year requirement to obtain the k2 visa using follow to join from 1 year of the k1 visa issuance.

with form 824 after aos is approved, ftj deadline is whenever the cild is eligible, but thats an extra $405 filing fee.

The embassy instructions letter, page 3 near the bottom. http://photos.state.gov/libraries/manila/1178798/feb2015/K1-K2%20Applicant%20Interview%20Preparation%20Instructions%20-%20English%20_February%202015_.pdf

Minor children identified on the approved I-129F petition may follow to join their petitioned parent. However, such follow-to-join K2 visas can only be issued within one year from the time the parent was issued a K1 visa. After one (1) year, they no longer derive immigration benefits from the I-129F petition and you or your spouse must file an immediate relative or second preference petition for them to qualify again.
