So i have just realised a huge issue with my birth certificate.

When i was 21 i found out who my real mother was as my grandmother had raised me since i was born.

So with this information i listed my mother as my mother on the G-325A form and sent in our petition.

However i have received my unabridged certificate and it has my grandmother listed as my mother!!!! She registered herself as my mother.

So now the G-325A form and birth certificate say two different things.

How bad is this, and how can i fix it?

Do you have any proof that your biological mother is in fact your birth mother? If so, take it to the interview. If not, then you don't. If asked about it, then just explain your situation and tell them that you probably should have listed the grandmother that is listed on your birth certificate as your mother.

I had issues with my children's birth certificates. On the advice of DWheels, I called the embassy and they told me to have my husband swear out an affidavit with the correct information. They said they would accept that because we'd been trying to get the unabridged birth certificates corrected for 2 years.

If I were you, I'd call the embassy and see what they suggest. I included the affidavits in all communications and wrote a letter stating that this is what I was told to do by the embassy,

Hi everyone, thanks for your input.

I emailed the embassy and received the following response.

"You will need to rectify the error on your unabridged birth certificate. Do contact the Department of Home Affairs on advice on how to go forth with it as the correct information needs to be presented to the interviewing officer. This document is needed to proceed with your visa application."

This is an absolute nightmare. I have no contact with my birth mother, i barely know her, surely it would be better for me to change the information on the G-325A.

I tried calling them but i got a menu and eventually it gave me an email address to email. That was a few weeks ago. I'll try and call again. I'm trying to see if i can fix it using docs4expats or something.

Hi, i tired calling them again and got told to email. So i emailed again and ask if it would be possible to bring a correct G 352A form and got this reply.

You may bring the relevant documents on the day of interview. It is upon the interviewing officer’s discretion as to which documents they may need regarding the details being displayed on your unabridged birth certificate.

This is slightly more hopeful than the last. However they don't say if at the discretion of the interviewing officer it could be grounds for denial. But to change the form seems way easier than changing the birth certificate. Not sure if i should still try and change my birth certificate or hope the interviewing officer will accept a corrected form.

I think you should change the G 352A form not your birth certificate, except the birthday certificate is a new one and be changed.
