Hi guys so I have a question my mother in law received her permanent residents card in November 2014 but went back to the dominican republic on Feb 2015 and has not travel back here to the U.S" isnt true that she is at risk to lose her residents status?

If she stays longer than 6 months then on her way back, the border officials will hassle her and ask her a lot of question in addition to giving her a lecture that the GC is for permanent residence in the US.

If she stays longer than 1 year without a re-entry permit then the US may think she has abandoned her GC.
