:goofy: My husband's daughter will be visiting us for the first time since her dad and brother moved here 1-1/2 years ago. She lives in the UK and therefore does not need a Visa to enter the US, but we know she needs proof that she will be returning to the UK and not intentionally staying here. She will have a return ticket, but WHAT other proof will she need so Customs will know she still has ties to the UK and will be returning? She is 17. She lives with her mother so has no rent/mortgage. She is not in school so cannot show she will return for classes. She does have a job and we told her to ask her boss for a letter stating when she would return to work from being on holiday in the US, but her boss doesn't want to write a letter. She says she used to be a travel agent and that a letter is not needed for a holiday trip. We told his daugther to tell her boss that immigration and foreign travel has changed since 9/11 and she does need this documentation to help Customs realize she will be returning to the UK. We don't know if her boss will write the letter or not so is there any other kind of paperwork or documents she can bring with her to prove she is going back to the UK? Obviously with her father and brother living here, it could look like she might stay, but she will be going back to the UK. Thanks for everyone's help! :goofy:

Shari, is there some kind of custody agreement her mother and your husband signed, saying she had custody of her? If so maybe your daughter could take that, along with a letter from her mother saying she expects her to return on X date.

I wouldn't be that concerned, people visit the US all the time without anything like that. If you're really worried, maybe her mom could write a letter ("My minor daughter Ann Smith will be visiting her father in the United States from x/x/xx-x/x/xx and will be returning to live with me after that time" or something). Is there an official custody order saying that she lives with her mum? Maybe she could bring that.

:goofy: There is NO custody agreement. She lived with her dad from the age of 5 until he moved here when she was 15 with no custody agreement. She moved in with her mother when her dad moved here. But we can see if her mom will still write the letter. :goofy:
