We're meant to be together

I'll be there and you'll be near

And that's the deal my dear

Thereover, hereunder

You'll never have to wonder

We can always play by ear

But that's the deal my dear

Oh, and I promised God I'd be more on time for Church on Sundays

God doesn't mind, only the church does. ;)

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

What are you going to give up?

I'm thinking about giving up shopping. And if you really knew me, you'd have to pick your jaw off the floor after hearing that.

It's something I greatly enjoy, I do it all the time, and it would be a great sacrifice to stop  I always choose something for Lent that is not something I'd want to do anyways...like quit smoking, etc. Those are behavior mods that would be beneficial, and I usually like to do something that has no other purpose than having it be my Lenten offering. Because then it's not a selfish thing.

I'll work out the average of what I spend in a week, and then prolly donate the money so that I get no financial benefit.

But re: fasting: I found a flyer at my church defining a fast: 1 meal and 2 small 'snacks' Seriously, how is that fasting? Do you fast? And if so, do you really fast or just go by church guidelines.

Oh boy Lisa. It's interesting you ask that. A few years ago my best friend and I gave up pop for Lent and I thought I was going to go crazy. I went from drinking 2 to 3 bottles a night to nothing. Zip. I cannot tell you how many times I nearly broke that resolution. Than last year I decided to not give anything up and try to make it to church for the stations of the cross. But that didn't work out that well. I had a really hard time trying to make it for the Friday prayer and Stations of the cross ritual. The year before that I tried to give up chocolate but that didn't go so well for me. I did manage to give up coffee for 40 days. So this year I'm still trying to reflect on what to give up. I think I can honestly say that I love to watch TV. I could try giving that up. I think I'm going to have to reflect on that. Or fast food. I seemt to order out a lot a work. Maybe a combination of that- no fast food at work and I will give up the TV except for 1 hour of news.

I try to eat only fish on Fridays during lent. That will be my fast. And I really like your idea of donating money, so I will follow your suit and save change and donate it to the poor box at the end of lent.

dNelson,

as I wrote to Lisa, I gave up pop a few lents back. It was one of the hardest things I've done because I consumed so much of it. I've back down on my consumption since than but I do enjoy a glass now and than. I wish you luck.
