Ok so my new husband is here in the U.S. On

K-1 visa . We are trying to purchase a new car .the Linder FMC dosent want to exccept his SS card cos they say it for work only . So from what I understand is that will not change until he becomes a U.S. Citizen ..

I'm so frustrated !! We are trying to build a life togather ..

So can any one tell me how this works ?

I am no authority on it, but I am certain that once he gets his status as an LPR he will be able to move forward with building credit with you. I see from your timeline that you have not adjusted his status yet? If so that is probably why. I am only guessing here, but I just received my green card, and my banker at Wells Fargo told me that all I need is my SSN to start building credit. I cannot see a reason that they would say that unless he doesn't have a green card yet.

If he does have status, maybe it is just that you don't have enough of a credit rating between you? I don't know. Maybe the people at the car company are not familiar with LPRs? There are a few things that could be holding you back, and without knowing your husband's actual status, it is hard to say.

I just read on another thread about restricted SSNs. Your husband was probably issued a restricted SSN on a different visa. He has to go to the local SSA office to apply for an unrestricted card. Should be no problems after that, just make sure he brings his documentation.
