Dependent Children Financial Support Info

Hi all,

I am hoping to file my N400 Application (based on marriage) within the next few weeks but have two questions regarding Dependent Children:

Facts:

I have 3 step-children. They do not live with us. Two of them are dependents i.e. we support them financially (one is grown). None of my step-children are claimed as dependents on our most recent tax return.

Questions:

When we filed I-751, we did not disclose my husband's children b/c we assumed only biological children should be listed. Will this be a problem when filing N400 since it clearly states to list step-children?

In the checklist it says to send supporting documentation for dependent children who do not live with you. Do I have to send this (since - legally speaking only - they are my husband's (US citizen) financial responsibility)?

Thanks for your help.

-J

1- For the first question, it shouldn't be a problem.[ List everybody in N400]

2- This is if you required to pay child support for the kids that are not in your custody, I don't think this applies to you. Your assumption is right, if your husband is applying for citizenship then he needs to show that he is paying the child support on time.
