Hi friends,

I filed I-130 for CR-1 a couple of weeks ago in Delhi, and recieved the packet 3 yesterday.

Our place(Kerala) belongs to the jurisdiction of Chennai, But the packet 3 is from Mumbai consulate. it has case number in it BMB200703XXXX.

I assume the case number prefix (BMB) indicates it is processed in Mumbai.

But just wanted to check with you if anyone has a similar experience of getting packet 3 through a different consulate other than what you expected.

I dont want to prompt them to make it a problem by sending an email straight a way.

So I would like to get opinions on how to handle this situation.

Please help if anybody has any advice for me.

Thank you

Geophil.

for anyone who is wondering what heppend next:

We were told at the time of filing that, we will be hearing from Chennai, and we heard it from Mumabi, but anyway we didnt wanted to make them feel that they made a mistake, to minimize the possibility of delay ;)

So we sent a mail to Mumbai saying that, though we were under the impression that our place is within the jurisdiction of Kerala, since currently the case is being processed by Mumbai, I want to check whether I should send further correspondance to mumbai itself.

Interestingly a week later, we got a reply from them saying: "Kerala falls under jurisdictions of American Consulate Chennai, we have forwarded your case to them today as per registration number XXXXXX. You can contact American Consulate Chennai Immigrant Visa unit at chennaiiv@state.gov after two weeks."

Lesson: If you get a packet from a consulate which doesnt serve for your area, then it IS a mistake, and contact them immediately.
