UK Passport renewal

I've searched for topics relating to renewing your UK passport from the US but haven't been successful in finding anything particularly recent. Is there anybody who may be able to help with the following questions I have...

I have not yet had my AOS interview (Seattle are working on July at the moment, we filed in October).

1. Is your old passport sent back to you? (with the good old K1 visa inside)

2. Does anyone know the rough timeframe? (recently)

I'm sure there were more questions but I can't remember them at the moment so will stick with those two for now

1. Your old passport is usually returned to you, with one corner cut off to indicate that it's now invalid. You won't ever need the K1 visa again, anyway, so not sure why that matters to you. Make a photocopy of your biometrics page and the visa for your records, if you want.

2. Takes at least 6 weeks, as per the instructions here: https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports/y/usa/renewing_new/adult

I got my new passport in March, the old one was returned as described in the post above. I sent my old passport and documents by standard mail, it took around 12 days to arrive but I had my new one back in my hand 4 days after my application arrived in the UK. Be prepared for a 6 week wait though as times can vary.

Can I ask where you had your UK passport size photos done? My husband tried Walgreens but they looked at him like he was an idiot when he asked for UK size setting.
