Missed biometrics appointment

I filed my I-751 and received a biometrics appointment notice on 4/10 for an appointment on 4/30. During the night of 4/29 there was a family emergency and I booked a flight for the following morning. Needless to say, I missed the appointment and didn't have time to try to walk-in or reschedule before hand. I'm wondering what the best way to proceed is?

Can I still try to walk in late, or would it be best to reschedule? The instructions for requesting a reschedule simply say to check the box on the notice and mail the original notice to the Alexandria ASC office. If I request a reschedule, should I also send a letter explaining why I want to reschedule?

Should I be concerned that I've missed my appointment and didn't request to reschedule before hand?

Missing bimetrics appointment can result in denial. I think you should request to reschedule. Sending an explanation letter with it can't hurt. Also, you can try walking in before you try to reschedule and see if they let you in. You can explain that you had a family emergency. But do all this ASAP, preferably within a day or two at most. i would contact them right away. Not showing up for your biometrics appointment is considered to be abandoning your green card. I believe it says something like that right on the letter. Get on the phone. Make an INFOPASS appointment. do whatever you need to do but do it now! I don't know WHO You need to call but you can't wait.

I actually did call USCIS on the day of the missed appointment and was told to just request a new appointment by mailing back the notice. Thanks for sharing the above link to that thread. I went ahead and mailed the notice back indicating that I want to reschedule, and I sent along a brief explanation letter as well.
