Convincing outside companies to relocate to the Sacramento region will not be a primary focus of the Greater Sacramento Area Economic Council, chief executive Barry Broome said at the organization's inaugural luncheon Wednesday.

...

The CEO-led nonprofit instead will focus on developing a simple economic plan that will help create jobs organically and spur the region's existing population to work locally instead of commuting to the Bay Area, Broome said

Individual cities across Northern California should not consider themselves in competition with each other -- the Sacramento region's competition is states like Texas, Washington and Florida, and cities such as Phoenix, Denver and Salt Lake City, said Broome.

...

Broome said he was "agnostic" about where jobs would locate within the region, stressing that counties and cities within the capital region were not in competition with one another.

In a single moment of bravado, Broome roused cheers from the crowd of about 800 gathered at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento, with choice words for Florida Mayor Rick Scott, who recently announced a job hunting trip to California. "If you spit in my face, I will spit in your eye. That's how I feel about the governor of Florida," he said.
