TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A white reserve sheriff's deputy thought he was holding a stun gun, not his handgun, when he fatally shot a black suspect during an arrest that was caught on video in Tulsa, Oklahoma, police said.

The video of the April 2 incident shows a Tulsa County deputy chase and tackle Eric Harris, 44, whom they accuse of trying to sell an illegal gun to an undercover officer.

A deputy is heard telling Harris, "I need you to roll on your stomach." At about the same time, a woman is heard in the background saying, "Stop fighting."

While the deputy is subduing Harris on the ground, a gunshot rings out and a man says, "Oh, I shot him. I'm sorry."

Authorities identified the shooter as 73-year-old reserve deputy Robert Bates and said he meant to use his stun gun.

Harris screams, "He shot me. Oh, my God," and a deputy replies: "You f---ing ran. Shut the f--- up."

When Harris says he's losing his breath, a deputy replies, "F--- your breath."

And make sure you're not carrying anything so they don't think you stole something.

You should see where I live. The first week I was asked did I even live there. It's like Friends with older white people. There's one black lady that lives in this building. They thought I was her guest.

Yeah I think age might be a factor here. This seems eerily similar to the Oscar Grant killing which means he'll at least be convicted of manslaughter.

I didn't want to bring that up. I still claim BS on that case.

The cop only got I think 2 years, and he only served a year and some change.

They may be harsher because of that case. Back then police carried their taser on their strong hand. I would assume all police departments in the US had recommendations to switch the taser to the weak hand. If this department got that recommendation and ignored it, there will be greater liability.

Looks like he's going to be charged with Manslaughter:

And people wonder why black folks run when they see the police. The only outcome is getting shot. When did they have their knee in the guys head?

Nah, folks are going to argue that he ran which led to his death.
