ah, no need to be hard on yourself. that's one of the most asked questions on VJ. I probably got the (L) in my posts icon from all the times answering that question. also, one ways are usually cheaper from Manila to USA, so go with one way. anyone going thru Manila I'll give some slack. ;)

You cannot go to the Philippines without a round-trip ticket or an onward ticket (unless you have Permanent Legal Residency or are a P.I. citizen).

But that is not the rule in every country.

But that is not the rule in every country.

JelloShotGirl (the USC) will need a roundtrip ticket to travel to the Philippines but her fiance (a Filipino) would only need a one-way ticket to the US since he is travelling on K1 visa, which although a non-immigrant visa, allows for adjustment as permanent resident hence round trip ticket is not required.

As a suggestion, you should check into sending the money to your fiancee and letting her purchase the ticket there. We did this and it saved us about $150 from what I could get here in the states. Good luck

My friend went to the Philippines with a one-way ticket and didn't have any problems. He hasn't bothered getting legal residency yet so has to visit the immigration officer every 60 days and pay all that money plus he has to leave the country for at least one day each year. He is a bozo!

There are severe penalties to airlines that allow passengers to board without a round-trip or onward ticket to the P.I..

As well, Philippine Immigration can deny entry to anyone who they feel could be a "public charge" (broke & destitute).

In most cases the person is not allowed to even pass through Immigration and is held at the airport until the next flight out.

The Airline that brought the passenger on a one-way ticket must pay for his transportation out of the country if the passenger has insufficient funds.

Legal Residency is not that easy to obtain in the Philippines. There are several options that require permanent deposits of significant money in a Philippine Bank authorized by the Government. Marriage to a Filipina 13a Visa can grant permanent residency but the process is lengthy and cumbersome but not particularly expensive. The "Revolving Tourist" option is widely practiced in which you leave the country for a day each year - 59 day visa extensions are then resumed for another year. Many practice this "Revolving Tourist" type 9a Visa for years (some over 20 years). This is precisely the practice so popular in Thailand.
