ahhhh

we have to get the police record now with NOA2. i hope they accept it the FIRST time he tries. their hours are terrible!! only weekday afternoons!

maybe he should try get his medical check early then??

i am also worried that at the interview he cannot understand their english and will make a mistake!!! >.<

Don't worry too much about the interview. I went with Yumi to her interview, and when she couldn't understand the question in English, the interviewer asked it again in Japanese. Also, you can attend the interview with your SO as well.

Her interview is scheduled for next week. If all goes well, then she can come to the US in April and we can actually start thinking about the wedding, and not think of it as fulfilling some procedural requirement.

Here's a question, and it's probably been asked a million times but I had no luck searching for it . . . she has to use the visa---in other words, get married---within three months of entering the US. But, is it possible to somehow delay that, and enter the US somehow without "using" the visa? Japanese are, after all, part of the VWP, so would there be a way to enter, then during those VWP days take a trip to Canada or another country and reenter the US on the fiancee visa? I know the answer is probably no, but I hadn't seen it officially written anywhere.

I ask simply because the timing of this forces us to have a wedding basically right on top of another one in the family, so if it'd be possible to space it out by a couple of months, that'd be ideal.

Yes. I don't see many from South Korea too. (and kind a sick of seeing too many Filipina in VJbiggrin.gif )

I think life in Japan or South Korea is good enough and not so much longing for American life.

I'm not intrested in US Citizenship and I don't think there are many naturalized citizen from Japan either.

Are you guys interested in Naturalization?

i think someday in the future we will consider moving to japan.

(perhaps in 20 years when the us economy completely tanks?)

then we will think about naturalization! ;)

until then we are gonna stay in america with my family (L)

but i totally agree with you about life in japan and SK are pretty high statndards so people won't want to leave. i wish that first world countries got a speedy and faster processing for visas than 3rd world or 2nd worlds. especially since there are less of us!! :P

Yumi loves the U.S. and wants to stay here, but she is not interested in naturalization either. If she were to become an American citizen, she would lose her pension.

Now, if we have kids, I guess they have to choose between American or Japanese Citizenship by their 20th birthday, right? It would be interesting to see what choice they make.

Johnny, if I am not mistaken, they need to make the decision by their 22nd birthday.

I hope Japanese government changes the law in near future so that we, the Japanese citizens, can have dual/multiple citizenship.

I am not planning to be naturalized at least for now for the exact same reason as your wife...

If she gets her US citizenship, why would you report it to the Japanese consulate? Then no one is the wiser. ;) And it's my understanding that children will have to decide at the age of 20. Got two kids who are going to have to deal with that, unless things change in Japan. Not sure what we're going to do if things are still the same with this issue. If they want both, may just have them denounce their US citizenship and then after their Japanese citizenship is all straightened out, run back to US and say, "Ah, I was just playin'!" *shrug* They might not even want to mess with keeping their Japanese citizenship when the time comes. Just have to wait and see.

Another thing I wanted to mention was a small surprise. The USCIS actually sent us a reminder letter regarding the lifting of conditions on my wife's residency. Everywhere I read, and even the official letter we received with the residence card stated that they would not inform us of the 90-day window. But, surprise, we got one anyway. For the extra $545 required for the I-751, I should at least get that, and maybe even a complimentary USCIS tee shirt. :D

Well, I didn't receive reminder. Looking around ROC forum, looks like USCIS start sending reminder at random these days.

I already got 10 yeas card in March. But hanging around in ROC forum, so see you there soon...wink.gif ?

Do you live in Kansas? Then you are luckystar_smile.gif . California Service Center is much faster than Vermont!
