I just recieved the interview appointment letter from the NVC today. It is scheduled for the 17th of August. I plan on requesting a date in July, in part because I have seen that the K1/K3 visa interviews seem to get scheduled only 1 month out when scheduled at the embassy, but also becasue my wife is pregnant. Has anyone had success geting their CR1/IR1 interview moved up?

I just wanted to say that today the embassy sent me a reply and they rescheduled the interview for July 13th. So the answer to my question is that yes, they will move the date up. :star:

Could you please let us know how you requested to move up date? Just called them or what was your process? Thanks!!!

I-129F Sent 2/2/2009

NOA1 2/18/2009

Touch 2/23/2009

NOA2 Approval Date 6/18/2009 (at Igor's List #167 when approved)

I would like to know too. However, I think they might have moved the interview up because his fiancee is pregnant. Which wouldn't work in my case. I could probably tell them that he was pregnant, but they wouldn't believe me.

Isn't it like $20 a minute or something like that to call the embassy for visa related matters? Or is there some secret free phone number that you called?

And an update. So I called NVC today and asked them if they had sent my petition to the embassy yet and they were like, "Ha ha, remember how we told you that it would be there by this week? Well... it's not. We actually decided to put it in advance processing instead. Have a nice day." Fortunately, over at the NVC threads, it looks like everybody is getting in and out of advance processing really quickly. It already to NVC pretty quickly, so we're already ahead of our 'schedule'.

I sent my NOA2 to Kenchin, we'll see if he can get his police certificate with it. Despite of how consistent and regular Japanese procedures are in general, when it comes to dealing with foreign matters, like immigration, it turns into America, so I'm crossing my fingers.

Hi Naito, hope your case gets to Japan quickly.

The difference is that I filed a I-130 and both of you filed a I-129f. If our cases were finished at the NVC at the same time, you would get an interview 1 month out if you wanted because you schedule the interview through the embassy website and pick the date. The embassy then tells you whether or not that date is available. For me I get an interview 2 months out because the NVC schedules the interview and apparently doesn't have a complte idea of the available dates. So I used the interview request form Immigrant Visa/Fiancé(e) Visa Appointment Request (OF-169) for Tokyo on the embassy website to ask for an earlier date. You will use the same form to schedule your visa interview.

Hello everyone! I just returned from Japan this morning after spending nearly two wonderful weeks with Yumi. :innocent: Congratulations to everyone who got their visas on the 22nd! Our interview went well, but we also got those strange "Where will you live, and what do you plan to do there?" questions. That was it. Now, we just have to plan moving her things to Seattle.

A question to Akiko and Klester: You guys are planning your entries pretty soon, right? Yumi won't be coming until late September/early October. What shipping companies are you using to move your things?

Thanks again to everyone for your help and support!

lauraandfrogger, glad to hear that you got your NOA2! Hopefully the rest will go smoothly for you.

Hey guys :)

Chiaki is planning on coming around September 1st, so still a couple months off. We will probably use Yamato to send some of her extra things over, because I work at Yamato in Salt Lake City and all of her stuff will just come straight to my office  To be honest, I haven't checked out pricing at all though.

Good luck with everything!!

Hey Johnny and Yumi,

Congratulations on your visa approval! Its good to hear that you had a wonderful stay here and Im glad we all got through this process.

I am currently living in Japan with my family so I wont have much things to move. If anything, Im going to buy a lot of things when I get back to Hawaii. I plan to fly back with Bronson so I will have an extra hand to carry all of my belongings. Also, I can leave some things that I dont need right away. I can always take it back with me when I visit Japan again.

I would think Kuroneko Yamato is the company most people use. There is also a company called Nippon Express (Nippon Tsuun), which is a company my family used when I used to live in Hawaii when I was younger.

Good luck with the moving and the journey from here on!

Hello again, everyone!

Thanks for the information about the interview. That's right, I saw the website where you can request days... I just didn't know whether or not they actually listened.

Good luck on the international moving. Moving in general is unpleasant to begin with, never mind moving to another country all together. Luckily, all of Kenchin's stuff is here already or I'd be in the same boat as you guys.

So... yeah, they wouldn't let him get his police certificate with NOA2 either. When it comes to immigration or foreigner issues, I swear, Japan is worse than America at misinformation/inconsistency. Has anybody else had to deal with this kind of thing yet?

Jeebus... it started with my first marriage when they told me that they didn't need a copy of my passport for the marriage papers even though I told them that I thought that they would need one and the next day got a phone call telling me that I had to come back and get a copy of my passport taken and I was like ARRGH! Then I got in a big fight with both the Japanese consulate here and the American embassy in Japan over whether or not I had to report my divorce to Japan and whether or not I could get married without having to wait 6 more months AGAIN. First, they told me on the phone that I don't have to report my divorce because I don't have a family register and that I could get married because the six month waiting period is built into an American divorce and because I'm an American citizen and Japan has no right to tell me whether or not I can get married because I'm eligible to get married here in the US. The next phone call they told me that I can't get married because I have to wait 6 more months. I went in person and they told me that I had to wait. Then I got a phone call a week later saying that they had been wrong and that I could get married. Then I went to the American embassy and they said that I had to report my divorce in Japan, even though the Japanese consulate had told me that I couldn't because I don't have a family register. Jeebus time like fifty bazillion  Good thing we decided to go for a fiance visa in the long run, they probably would have told me that I can't get married again when I went to Japan to marry him.

Hey Akiko,

Same to you. Hope everything is working out with you and Bronson. I guess you guys have to get married within 90 days. Hope all your plans are working out if you didn't already tie the knot.

We are fine, except she went back to Japan this past Sun to take care of some work stuff and will be back in about a month.

Anyway, have a great time at your wedding if you didn't already, and enjoy your life together.

Hey you other Japan filers, what's happening with you all. Sorry, couldn't advise on the moving stuff, cause my wife and I have been going back and forth to Japan and moving her THINGS (and I mean MANY THINGS) here two suitcases at a time. And shoots, JAL just recently lowered the allowed weight of the suitcases from 70lbs to 50lbs. I keep telling her to throw things away cause I have everything here we need, but she insists on bringing them. Shoganai ne.

Anyway, hope all had a great 4th of July and have a nice time with your SO.

Later,

vny

We still haven't married yet. We're planning on going to get our marriage license this week and getting married before this month ends. We're not having anything big. Maybe a party in the future. Bronson's been busy with work and I've been at home being a "housewife" and getting other things together such as AOS, SS, and all that. I also plan on going back to school next year. Theres just so much to do.

I was upset to hear that JAL lowered their suitcase weight limit. I had so much to bring back and shoved everything in my 4 suitcases (2 of mine and 2 of Bronson's). But when I weighed them, they were over 50lbs. So I had to rearrange my suitcases and leave some things behind. But its not a big problem for me I guess cause my things are safe at my mother's place.

Anyway, I hope your wife will be back soon!

Hey Guys! Glad to hear that you got to Hawaii safely, Akiko. I hope that everything goes smoothly for the AOS. I heard that they're scrutenizing the applications a lot more closely than they used to.

Thanks for informing everyone about the weight change too, vny, it really sucks but it's nice to know before you get to the airport and are forced to take apart your suitcases in the checkout line.

As for us, NVC sent my application to Japan last Monday, but we still haven't heard from them. I tried calling them on Tuesday just to check on it but they said that I have to use their $20 rip off line to ask even if they have received my application, so I put it off, but I'm going to call today I think. It looks like almost everyone (there aren't many other recent K-1 applicants with fully filled out time lines) got their packet 3 in about a week or so after NVC sent their cases... except for Akiko. What happened with the month gap, if you don't mind me asking?

Kenchin said that all of the Japanese blogs say that it takes about three weeks to a month after the NVC sends the case for everyone to get packet 3... does anybody have an opinion?

Thanks!

And about my packet 3, I have no idea why it took a month to get to me. Actually, throughout the whole journey, I didn't know what was going on. After 7 months of waiting for the NOA2, Bronson called the USCIS to see where our case was at. They told him that they had already sent him a notice... and it turns out that they sent it to his old address when he called months ago to let them know he had moved. From then on I was just waiting and waiting to get my packet 3. When I finally did, I looked at the dates on the papers and it said the embassy received it about a week after the petition had passed. Soooo I have no idea why it took so long. Maybe they sent it overseas and it came back to Japan? I don't know... Maybe it was just me cause I noticed others have gotten theirs sooner. But I really hope you get yours asap.

Good luck!

I just found this thread and I wanted to say hello and let you know that I will be going through either a K1 or CR1 process with my fiancee. We recently had troubles with a B1 visa and she had an expedited removal back to Japan two weeks ago on a return trip from Osaka. We are trying to work through the disappointment and confusion of this whole process and it's still really confusing only two weeks in. Does anyone have any experience with I212 or I601 on their K1? Any suggestions for Japanese/English lawyers who deal with these types of cases a lot?

Thank you.
