I am confused by the visa terms and the types.

I filed for my wife as i130 - CR1 spouse visa. We got approved on Jan 13 2015 from NVC and we have out interview date on March 24th in India.

I was told by fellow visa journey member "bkghosh" who is very informative on his direction took me right to where I needed to go to book the biometric appointment.

But the ustraveldocs.com website is bit confusing. After signing in and following the steps I came across what type of visa, i went to the step as follows. Visa Type->Immigrant Visa ->Post -> Mumbai -> Visa Category -> K visas -> Visa Class ->K3 (spouse visa I believe)-> personal data for my wife. After filling all that information out I was sent to the next page to pay the fees in the amount of $265. So, my wife will go the bank first thing in the morning to pay.

But the question is I have filed for CR1 visa not K3!!! any one can please shed some light on it? I was under impression that with CR1 i dont need to do adjustment for green card and with K visa I need file for adjustment for green card.

I would really appreciate it.

Thank you,

Nikhil

Thank you NLR. Although, one thing I want to clrify is that the next person read this post maybe needs to keep in mind that make sure if you have filed CR1 visa you must select All IV visa option when making your biometric apointment and choose CR1 not K3 visa. K3 visa will charge you extra money and maybe cause futher delays in processing your file.

And the money is not refundale once you make the payment. Also you can call the Embassy in India they are very helpful and walk you thorugh all the steps. I was amazed.

With CR1 Visa for spouse of an american citizen all the fees are paid alrady. At USCIS and then at NVC. The $325 current fee at NVC cover the cost of biometrics and visa processing fee for India. So you dont have to pay anything in India. I am not sure about other countires.

CR1 - Spouse(Non US citizen )Visa for US Citizen (person filing)

USCIS - i130

NVC - AOS, DS260

Embassy in India

- Make appointment for biometrics - I spoke to 3 different reps in embassy by calling and they all said that you can get the biometrics done anytime prior to the interview date.

-The only reason people get it done the week or day before is due to only one biometric center in India that is in Mumbai. So, if you are from different city then its worth doing that but if you are in Mumbai then you can do it whenever you want.

-Medical - find the approved hospital from the list and just call them to make the appointment. Yes, you can get this out of the way before your appointment too.

******MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE P4 letter that IS THE INTERVIEW LETTER BEFORE PROCEDING*******

K VISA is getting phased out thats what i heard from one of the rep but i am not sure. Personally I would not recommend to file K visa if you are married but if you are not than you have to file for K Visa.

Search Google for CR1 vs K3 visa it will show you comparesion which one is better.

thank you visa journey for all your help and support couldnt have made it this far without your help.

Thank you,

Nikhil
