Hello everyone….I have a bunch of questions lol and hope you guys could help me out

My mother is a green card holder and her GC expires on April 28th 2015

She is just finishing up filling N-400 for her citizenship

So my question is : Does she need to renew her Green Card or just file her N-400 for naturalization ?

What if her interview is set up after April 28th ??? Obviously she's gonna be out of status, right? Or that doesn't matter since she is gonna apply for her citizenship ?

Im very confused how does this work

Also on N-400 form what she should check :

1. Have been a permanent resident of the United States of America for at least 5 years

or

2. Have been a permanent resident of the United States of America for at least 3 years. If you are married to a US citizen etc etc etc .

She's been Permanent Resident since 2002 and she is still married with the same US citizen (her husband) with whom she obtain her permeant resident status. They got married in 2002 as well

Thank you all for your answers !!!

Her car expires but she is still permanent resident. She can take naturalization process without renewing anything. On N400 form, she needs to check 1.

N400

12/06/2014: Package filed

12/31/2014: Fingerprinted

02/06/2015: In-Line for Interview

04/15/2015: Passed Interview

05/05/2015: Oath letter was sent

05/22/2015: Oath Ceremony

For what it's worth the N-400 instructions say you ought to apply only if you have 6+ months left on GC. This may be just to ease travel if you otherwise were leaving, I'm not sure, but it is stated in that long PDF online about filing by the uscis.

Yeah i see your point thats why i was asking on here ..Is there anyway I can find that out through local immigration office or any 1-800 number ?!

Thank you so much Jawaree and NancyNguyen ….are you guys 100% sure about this? :)

No she wont be out of status, her card expired not her status

if he job does not requires the renewed card, or she is not traveling

abroad she can wait on getting her citizenship certificate
