Manila Airport Flight/Departure Questions?

the airline was very clear to say that it's a gamble though and it's up to Japan immigration whether they give it to you or not I have read some horror stories online about it.

Is it that the passenger talks with the departure airline person at the Manila airport and then the airline gives a document in Manila or something to show Narita immigration? Then the Japan immigration can give an overnight pass?

Let us all know how things work out.

From what I can find, unless you have a unanticipated flight delay (i.e. the original itinerary was not designed to keep you overnight), a transit visa must be applied for.

  • A Double-Entry Transit visa is valid for 4 months and can be used twice (once on the way to your destination and once on the return trip) to complete a round trip.

I have had overnight connections in Narita (both planned and unplanned), but as a US Passport holder there was never a concern over any visa requirements. I was on a delayed Delta flight from Atlanta that missed the Manila connection last year and I know that Philippine Passport holders were allowed to leave the airport to go to the airline provided hotel...but that was an unplanned stay.

I also think (my opinion only) that if it comes to a decision at the airport, the Japanese Immigration official will measure the "risk" of an illegal stay. A Philippine National with a valid ticket to the US and having a valid US entry visa certainly does not present a risk.
