My husband and i have had disagreements over the different word meanings in latin spanish and dominican spanish and i need some clarification.

The word "guapo" in latin means attractive or good looking. My husband says in his country it means that the person grew up in a rough neighborhood and they know how to fight.

The word "feo" in latin means ugly or unattractive. My husband says it means that if a woman says this about a man that she will sleep with anyone, or that she is promiscuous.

Can any dominicans clarify this for me? Or am i being fed some bull?

About guap he has reason, for dominican means angry or that know how to fight.

But about feo, i havent heard that that mean that the woman will sleep with someone else.

Maybe he is wrong, or he try to say another word.

Feo is ugly- unatracvive.

Feo isnt promiscous.

Well this is the context:

We were discussing work and his boss and I said that his boss was unattractive. He said that in his country that word "feo" means when a woman says that, that she is promiscuous or sleeps around. Also said this: Tu ta pasao. Meaning that something I said meant the total opposite to him. So I am trying to understand.

It doesnt matter in wich context you use feo, feo is ugly nothing else.

From where he says that mean that a woman is promiscous?

About ta pasao means that you say something wrong or something unbelible.

For example if someone tell you that with his check is going to buy a plane, but you know that this person isnt rich , you say tu ta pasao, mean that he isnt going to buy a olane with his check because he doesnt has enough money.

About feo, i dont know what he trys to say.

But maybe he trys to say that a married woman cant be talking about if other men are good looking or no.

Here the dominicans men think that if a woman is married or engaged, the woman cant find another man goodlooking or no.

Tgey think that married woman cant give their opinion about men, if are atractive or no.

Well this is the context:

We were discussing work and his boss and I said that his boss was unattractive. He said that in his country that word "feo" means when a woman says that, that she is promiscuous or sleeps around. Also said this: Tu ta pasao. Meaning that something I said meant the total opposite to him. So I am trying to understand.

well i guess that means that i offended him then in speaking bad about his boss? that it should not matter to me what he looks like. Which I told him that if I said something wrong to please explain it to me, but he was just mad. So thanks for clarifying this. I love my husband and don't like these disagreements

I think you already received good information above.

I believe your husband just didn't like that you judged his boss to be ugly. Not because he is his boss, but because you cared enough to form an opinion. I love the DR and my new family there. I love the Dominican people in general as they are usually happy even when circumstances are tough. But, on the whole, Dominicans can be very jealous. Much like most latino people. I believe your husband gave you a rough time about using "feo" as he doesn't want you to even notice if another man is handsome or ugly. In the DR feo is just ugly.

Guapo can mean someone that likes to fight or has had practice defending themselves on the street. Street smart as well. However, guapo in the DR can definitely mean handsome as well. It depends on the context.

Sounds to me like your husband is not comfortable with you passing any judgments on the looks of other men.
