I have a general question for everyone. Once everyone has called and received their LND number from the NVC, how quickly is everyone setting up appointments for their medicals?

My reason for asking is because USCIS approved our case on the 15th of September but sent it to the wrong place being the NRC instead of the NVC. NVC has only just received our file as of the 8th of December. Our approval date will expire on the 15th of January. My fiance' already had filed a DS-160 and put his planned travel date for the 5th of January 2015, before the NVC ever came close to receiving our file. Should he be calling and setting up his medical asap? He was thinking to schedule the medical for the 5th of January now. I don't know if he did that if we would get the interview date prior to the expiration of our approved petition. Since it can take upwards of 6 weeks to receive an interview date after the medical, would he be able to apply for an extension as it could still go over the expired approval date even if he had his medical earlier than the 5th of January? Not sure my question and statements are making sense since it went all wrong with the transfer of our paperwork from USCIS to the NRC instead of the NVC. Was a nightmare. If we can request a extension, how do we go about doing that?

My fiance' already had filed a DS-160 and put our planned wedding date for the 5th of January 2015, before the NVC ever came close to receiving our file. I know they seem to hurry up the ones with a earlier wedding date planned already. Will this cause an issue? You can request a medical any time, now that you have the case number.

You do not need to worry about needing an extension as it will automatically "extend".

The embassy does not expedite a case because of the wedding date. If they can accomodate, they will try to.

Keep in mind that an interview will not be scheduled until after the medical results are received. If you plan the Medical on Jan 5th, you will be looking at an interview in February, in my opinion.

I apologise. I'm sure you answered the question before I finished editing my post. Travel date for the 5th of January that should have been. I did change it in my original posting. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The NVC had told me not to worry about an extension since it was of no fault of our own. I will let him know to expect maybe a February interview possibly. Thank you so much for your help :)

Travel or Wedding date, either way they will try to accomodate but can't guarantee anything.

I do know that they are currently scheduling January and February.

If you're able to schedule your medical sooner than Jan, you'd have a better chance of getting an earlier Jan interview date.

Best of luck!

I would worry a little bit about your DS-160 because it was sent long before the embassy had your case, even before NVC had it. It could have been discarded. They still don't have your case at the embassy Check the CEAC with "immigrant" and your LND number to get an idea when London has at least received the electronic file.

Knightsbridge asks about the case number as a way of keeping people from getting out of sequence and attending the medical too soon..like before NOA2 or the file getting to London. So make an appointment for a future date, but don't attend before London has your case logged in and has issued your letter of instruction is my advice. And for sure have the police certificate and immunization records and shots from the GP before attending. Jumping the gun on the established sequence can sometime just screw up things.

Extension of petition-- letters of instruction from London have said that they would like a new letter of intent from the American, presented at the interview to revalidate an expired petition. Nobody has recently confirmed by posting a photo of their letter that the same instruction is still included. Have your fiancé read the letter carefully when it arrives to see if you need to send a new letter of intent. Many embassies renew automatically, but if London specifically says in writing to bring a new letter of intent, then do it.
