So - my naturalisation process has been moving along nicely. Currently waiting for my interview letter and date.

Then - this past Saturday - I had to take my wife to the airport. She was running late for her flight, so I'm speeding. Got pulled over for doing 25 mph over posted limit. I have to pay a fine and do traffic school. BUT - the cop took away my DL.

I'm hopeful I will get it back in time, but not sure. What if I go to the interview without a DL (State ID is listed as one of the things you need to take along). So much for my good moral character :-(

The citation you received will suffice as evidence of residence in your state. Just make sure you do what you need in order to get it back so your naturalization doesn't get stuck on a formality. Optionally, consider rescheduling your interview to a date after that of your assigned court and traffic school completion, at a time when you will have your DL back, hopefully.

Good luck!

just wondering how come cop took your DL when it was just traffic ticket.. even if you get DUI and you did breath test , you can still have your DL..

I was surprised as well.

He trapped me doing 61 in a 35 zone, which is 26mph over and an automatic court appearance.

He took pity on me and only wrote down 60 (25 mph over) which is another category and qualifies me for traffic school. He mumbled something about already having called in the offence when he was still going to write me up for 61 which is why he retained my DL.
