Weird Goings On at the SSN Office!

Hey everyone,

I received my EAD back in July and applied for a SSN. Received it within a week, no problems at all except when I was trying to get bills in my name my SSN kept saying it was invalid. I put this down to not having any credit history attached to my SSN. I received my greencard last month. Went to the SSN office to lift the conditions a couple of weeks ago and thought this would be a quick and easy process like it was the first time I applied. Spent about 30 mins with a confused looking worker, he said that the INS had not updated my details and that my maiden name was in the system and not my married name and he had to change this. He said it could take up to 4 weeks to receive the card. The thing is, when I applied for my SSN the first time it was in my married name NOT my maiden name and my card had my married name on it. He also took the card from me. Has anyone had a similar issue? Also, I am applying for jobs at the moment. Will my SSN number be the same as before or will it change? Any help appreciated. Thanks!

SSN is yours for life.

Never happened to me, but the SSA agents have no idea how to handle immigration in combination with name changes. My guess is that someone keyed yours in wrong. They took mine (I'm a USC) when I brought mine with me to change my last name too.
