You're going to have to give us more information as well as fill out your timeline. We have no idea what you've applied for, what stage you're in, country of origin, etc. Your question is really vague because I don't know which interview, what answers you're looking at and where you saw the test questions. Could you please give us some more information?

I have an interview next month. I was going over the test questions. Is it ok to word things slightly differently to the answers given in bold? Giving the same answer but in your own words?

Within reason, yes it's ok to do that, but you need to be careful. My advice is to stick with the answers in the guide.

If you use your own words, the interviewer will determine whether or not you've given the correct answer. If you give the answer exactly as listed in the study guide, then you don't leave anything open to interpretation.

For example, if you are asked to name a branch of government and you say "the judges" instead of "the judiciary" or "the judicial branch", that's probably ok (in my opinion).

However, if you are asked to list one responsibility of a citizen and you say "be in a trial" instead of "serve on a jury", the interviewer may decide that your answer is not accurate enough.

The OP is posting in the Citizenship forum, so it's fair to assume that he/she is applying for US Citizenship.

He's asking about the test questions that have sample answers and wants to know if he can deviate from those answers.

I don't know of any other test questions with sample answers other than the 100 civics questions that are part of the N400 interview.

His country of origin won't affect the test questions.

N400, final stage, my timeline is private.

I went over the 100 questions. My answers were not exactly always the same as the bold in the guide, but were correct, just in my own words.

I have taught US history.
