Hi, I am in the throws of the process of sponsoring my wife to immigrate to the US. I have a joint sponsor for the affidavit of support. I received notice back that a couple of things needed to be fixed on the form. One of them on my form was the household size which I assume would be 2. 1 for me and 1 for my wife which is the only person being sponsored. What is confusing is that for my sponsor didn't have to change that section but he in fact actually only put down 1 for his household size. He is the only one in his household but what is confusing me is whether he should have a total of 1 or 2 because if your automatically supposed to count the person who is being sponsored it should be a total number of 2 (logically in my head) but it didn't need to be corrected. Maybe I am wrong and over thinking it which at this point I probably have. Thanks for any help.

No one can have a total household size of only 1. If you are single with no dependents, then it will still be at least 2, yourself plus the intending immigrant. You need to add up the correct household size in Part 5. #1 would have a 1 for the immigrant being sponsored. #2 would have a 1 for the person filling out the I-864. If no other options apply, then put a 0 for those and then a total of 2 for #8. If the joint sponsor is married or has any dependents, then they would need to indicate those and total up the count correctly.

Right the only thing that threw me off about was seeing that they didn't catch it. I didn't either until I noticed it while revising what needed to be changed. Made me think I was missing something and maybe shouldn't change it but they just have not noticed it when they reviewed it the first time.
