Hi, my wife is ready to file her N-400 soon. We plan on taking a month long trip abroad in December (5 months from now, around the time N-400 process should be finished.) We're also planning a 1-2 week trip in late October.

Should we postpone our application a month to be sure we're around in the last month of the process?

Also, when is the biometric appointment usually scheduled for?

Thanks!

I would delay filing. You don't want to have your oath ceremony right before foreign travel because you will have to rush to try and get a US Passport and cause a lot of undue stress if you apply for the passport with just enough time to spare.

I filed in June and have an out of state trip in September, guess what? They scheduled my interview while I am on the trip. So I have to send them a letter requesting a new date. I am also concerned about the oath ceremony being scheduled for while I am on a foreign trip in November. I hope my Oath ceremony will be scheduled after that November trip so I don't need to worry about the US Passport for the trip and just travel on my Green Card.
