Yes you could wait.

The question is why would you, here is something to consider.

When you adjust, the person adjusting will have to go through the "FBI Name Check". From what we have gathered in conversations with USCIS (not the miss information line) and research online. This check is comprised of two things. A check with the Home country of the applicant, and a domestic check here in the good ol' US of A. The check here is comprised of typing the applicants name into a computer and it checking all permutations of that name. every lead that pops up must be checked, some of which need to be checked manually. As you can imagine, this can take a while. Which is why some take longer than others. My wife has a hyphenated name which only compounds the issue.

So, my question to you is just this..... are you just looking to save some money or lessen the headache of this process?

if you have all of the time in the world and do not plan on traveling, go that route.

Personally, I would not recommend this route, I think it is only delaying the inevitable.
