Hi Everyone!

I got married on New Years Eve and on Monday I will go to change my name and status on my current old, student SS card. I got a stamp at the POE so I can just wait 2-3 weeks for the new card and I am ok to work until my original EAD card comes right? Does the employer ask to se the card??

So this means I will have a new name on SS card and driver's licence, what happens when I use my Advance Parole to travel home and my passport has my maiden name? Am I in their system with my married name? Will there be a problem? I'm getting a new passport in my homecountry with the new name.

Please I need some help!

Thanks..

You book Airline tickets using name in passport, The AP will have your married name. It is recommended to have a copy of your marriage certificate with you to show the name change from passport to AP document when you return to the USA, the officer at the POE may want to see proof of name change.

Do you also know if employers ask to see your SS card right away? Do they have to verify anything since I don't have the EAD card yet but got the stamp in my passport?

How long have you been here? You can get SSN withing 76 days of entry on the K-1 visa, after that you apply for one after EAD or get Green card.

Employers usually request SSN as part of the employment paperwork.

I got here on December 7th but decided to wait to update my student SSN card since I wanted to do the namechange at the same time. Now my card says Not valid for employment. I'm sending in my AOS on Monday so I know there will be some time between the card and my K-1. Looking for temp. job, just curious if I have to wait for the new SSN card before I start jobhunting... guess it takes a couple of weeks?

You dont need the SSN while job searching, only when you accept a position and fill out the paperwork, You will need EAD and SSN. Edited by YuAndDan
