The Ombudsman's Office has reviewed your submission and contacted U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regarding your case.

Please be advised that in certain cases, it may take up to 60 days to receive a response to our inquiry. We will notify you when we receive information from USCIS.

If your circumstances have changed substantially, you may contact us at cisombudsman@hq.dhs.gov and reference your unique submission number ********.

I'm sorry you have to go through this :(

The downfall to all these bureaucratic processes is that it loses all sense of humanity - people involved consider each other family (in the case of spousal requests, ACTUAL family!) and yet here we are, separated by laws and government, trying to do everything we can to just be together. In so many cases the people involved have done nothing wrong, are the victims of circumstances beyond their control, and other times they slip through the cracks. Very inhumane to those private people involved.

Have you tried contacting your Senator and/or Congressmen/women? I see you already lodged an Ombudsman complaint but contacting them may get another set of folks on your side who can contact. Worst case scenario you could try hiring an immigration lawyer - but depending on your budget that may be out of the question. Not to mention many of the immi lawyers get turned away just like you would if you called customer service.

Good luck to you, I hope your approval comes soon and the remainder of the process is smooth! (F)

Oh boy, that is definitely rough. The entire process just seems shrouded in mystery. We can't get anyone except customer service on the phone, we really aren't sure what the background checks consist of, it takes one service center one month for a NOA2, others are 5-6 months.. just a disaster all around.

I keep reminding myself going into this process that I will have one heck of a story to tell our children. Are you two at least able to financially support a visit to see the other every so often? I can't imagine what is causing the holdup with your case. Usually the security checks cause the holdup, or RFE because of not providing enough information. Is it possible you received an RFE but for some reason were not contacted about it/letter lost in the mail/etc?

I would guess you are already checking the USCIS case status anyways, which should list any RFE's.

Ty for the reply you are so sweet you are right about back checkground coz we got this from our Congressman :

( Good Morning ,

I apologize for the delay in responding, I had been out of the office for 2 weeks. I checked-in with the Nebraska Service Center and they noted that the case is still undergoing additional background checks, as I stated before there is no set time frame of completion of background checks. Again, I will submit another congressional inquiry in 30 days ")

Yeah, that sounds like the culprit then. It seems like an awful long time though for a background check - you are already over a year from your NOA1. I am afraid it's just more patience and waiting for you :(. Definitely continue to follow up every month with your congressional office members as well as the Ombudsman. At the very least you won't go crazy going months without a word, and stay on top of them each month. It has been well over a year for you, which is frankly absurd. I have seen some other couples who have basically been in administrative processing even longer than that, but really, why?

I sincerely hope you two have a speedier process soon. It's rough to have this hanging over your heads when you are just trying to have a life together. It feels criminal to be honest. Good luck (F)
