When my mom filed for petition for me and my two siblings (over 21) in July 2006, she was just a Permanent Resident. Over time, she became a US Citizen thus making us eligible for F1.

Before, F1 takes longer to be current compared to F2B. But according to the latest August 2014 VIsa Bulletin, the F1 priority date jumped 17 months compared to F2B's 2 months.

My question is can my mother still file us for F1? I read here somewhere that you cannot be re-classified if that happens. So if we do opt for F1, we stay F1 and cross our fingers that it is indeed faster than F2B. Re: not being re-classified anymore, someone posted before that she was F2B then got classified to F1 and that was when F1 was slower than F2B so she wanted to go back to F2B.

I hope this post makes sense.

In a nutshell, I just wanna ask, is it still possible for my mother to file us from F2B to F1? Thanks!

Hi emma

If your mom becomes a usc your petition together with your siblings will automatically converted from f2b to f1

Its upon naturalization of the petitioner

So in time the nvc will know it and communicate with you just like mine

But in the cspa its one of our priviledge to opt out and request for retention to f2b.

So before i requested to opt out from converting to F1

I email US embassy here in manila, asking why is it f2b seems to be faster rather than f1

Aside from what i read and seen on visa bulletin

They replied its because the allotment of visa in this category

So i made a choice to retain in f2b

Besides, movements of each category are very unpredictable.

So i'd say its you choice which one to choose.

Anyways, what's your Priority date emma?

Hi Amandaciar22. Thanks for your reply. I typed wrong information above, hehe. I wrote filed for petition when in fact I meant Priority Date. Our priority date is June 2006 and it seems F1 is closer now than F2B.
