pregnant wife & insurance benefits?

So my fiance (now wife) came into the U.S. about one month ago. We haven't had a chance to get the official marriage license until 3 weeks ago. During this time, my wife and I suspected she was pregnant and checked with a home preg. test.

We got married immediately and my employer then added my wife to my health insurance policy. That same day we went to the Dr. for prenatal care. Now I am afraid that the insurance company will deny coverage as a "pre-existing" condition. Does anyone have any experience with these types of situations?

Under the new Affordable Care Act, pre-existing conditions cannot be excluded from health insurance coverage. There are some very limited instances where it might apply, for example if your employer is in a group health plan that is considered "grandfathered" and has exclusions for pre-existing conditions. I would be surprised if this was the case. You're most likely to be just fine! Good luck and congrats on the upcoming addition to your family! :) You can always check with the insurance company. Call the number on your health insurance card and ask!

Prior to the ACA, yes, pregnancy was considered a pre-existing condition... However, since you added her to your policy during the authorized enrollment for life changi g events (marriage) you should not have any coverage issues... Just read your policy for covered doctors and tests etc... Congrats...
