Hey guys, I just signed up on VJ, so mind me if I'm asking a silly question :)

I applied for Citizenship back in December, had my interview on April 16th and during the interview I signed a name change petition (just my first name). Today I received an update that my oath ceremony has been scheduled and that I should receive a notice with the date and location. Now my question is, which name is gonna be printed on that notice? Is it gonna be my current name or the changed one? Reason why I'm asking is because I'm in the middle of scholarship processing for fall 2014 semester and I have to submit my application by May 26th. I mentioned this name change thing while I was going though the paperwork with my admission officer and she told me that I have to submit any USCIS letter which shows my new legal name, otherwise I might have to wait until next semester to apply. She said that it's for security purposes to fully verify my identity.

So guys if any of you went though the name change process during naturalization, could you please share your information if you recall which name was used on your oath letter?

I would really really appreciate any help.

Thank you.

Your name will not legally change until you take the oath. The name change occurs concurrent with the naturalization. That's why name change applicants have to have their ceremonies presided over by a judge and not a USCIS official.

Therefore, any forms you get before your oath date will have you original name, which is currently your legal name.

To be clear, your name has not changed yet.

Thank you for your response. Yes I understand that it's not changed yet, but I heard that people are getting oath letters with their new name on it, I just wanted to confirm with someone who actually witnessed it, because whatever I heard might be a rumor or not accurate information.
